Rabbits and Kids Go Together

If you're looking for a great pet for children consider a rabbit. They are nice and small and a child can comfortably sit them on their lap, they are cheap to buy, they are cheap to feed, they don't bark at the neighbours and they won't live as long as a dog or a cat so you're not committing to looking after the rabbit once the children have left the house.

Not only that but they can be an indoors pet as well as an outdoors pet.

A rabbit is normally housed in what is known as a rabbit hutch, or a rabbit cage. These generally consist of a sleeping area which is enclosed so that he can, if living in an outdoors hutch, be protected from the weather, and a run where he is able to play and exercise.

As a general rule the rabbit hutches available in pet shops are too small for one rabbit, let alone more than one. They are very active creatures and need plenty of exercise and unless you're rabbit hutch is quite large most are unable to exercise adequately in them.

If he is to be an outdoors rabbit you can exercise him in a rabbit run that you can build for him that is a protected area where he is unable to escape and can exercise. This is normally accessible from his rabbit hutch.

But you can also keep a rabbit indoors. For example you can keep rabbit cages in the laundry where he will be warm and dry and happy.

And whether you decide to keep his rabbit hutch indoors or outdoors it still needs cleaning.

Just remember that it's much better that the hutch does not have wire on the floor as rabbits do not like walking on wire and can damage their feet.

Indoors rabbits need exercise time outside the hutch each day just as outdoors rabbit do.

And of course this is the best part of having a rabbit. Why not have a room dedicated to rabbit exercise? Provide him with a safe room full of toys where he can play and exercise every day.

And rabbits can also be house trained as well.

But you do need to do a little inspection before setting your rabbit playroom. Rabbits will happily disappear into tiny holes and can get stuck there, so make sure there are no dangerous holes anywhere in the room before he starts his play.

Then why not cut up a few plastic pipes for him to play in and watching enjoy himself in his room.
