If you taped a long movie of a book you loved, and you wrote a series of very brief explanations of each ...?
chapter (like those soap opera plot summaries they give in the paper), and then gave the book, the tape and the little summaries to one of your teenage children and told them what a good book it was---if you did this, and what that teenager did was read the cryptic little summaries and then fast forward through the tape---do you think they would also love the book you loved? Do you think if you read Sparknotes and skim some great novel like MOBY DICK that you will even have a clue as to why it is a popular and well-loved classic? The reason books are classics is that they were best-sellers just like TWILIGHT. Why won't you burn the study guides and sparknotes and read the books themselves and give them a chance?
